Some high clouds and cumulus clouds will be around for the eclipse event this afternoon. A small chance of a few showers and storms will exist this afternoon, mainly away from Lake Michigan. Storms are expected for most areas beginning overnight tonight and Tuesday morning. Some of these could become locally strong to severe, with a heavy rain potential also in place. 

Rain will gradually clear out on Tuesday behind the frontal system, with cooler air filtering in. Mostly drier and cooler weather will then be in place for the remainder of the week. A brief shower can not be ruled out, especially on Wednesday.

Today:  Partly sunny with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the upper 80s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.

Tonight:  Partly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening, then showers and thunderstorms overnight. Some thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall. Lows in the upper 60s. South winds 5 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 80 percent.

Tuesday:  Showers and thunderstorms likely until midday, then partly sunny with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Some thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall until midday. Highs in the upper 70s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Gusts up to 25 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Tuesday Night:  Mostly clear. Lows in the mid 50s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph in the evening becoming light.

Wednesday:  Mostly sunny until midday then becoming partly sunny. Highs in the mid 70s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
