The Michigan Department of Transportation has announced the $13.1 million major project that includes the reconstruction of Michigan Avenue between Brown Street and Louis Glick Highway/Washington Avenue in downtown Jackson begins today. In addition, Louis Glick Highway and Washington Avenue, both one-way roads, will be converted to allow for two-way traffic.

Starting Wednesday, April 26, Michigan Avenue between Brown Street and Steward Avenue will have one lane open in each direction as crews start preliminary work on the project. There will also be intermittent side street closures along this stretch of Michigan Avenue for utility work.

Then, starting Wednesday, May 3, the westbound detour is scheduled to be put in place. During construction, one lane of eastbound traffic will be open on Michigan Avenue, with westbound traffic detoured using Wildwood Avenue and Brown Street. This traffic configuration will remain in place for the duration of the project.

MDOT’s project map, located here https://goo.gl/vdnu1E will be updated throughout the construction.  Completion is scheduled for December, 2017.
