The Green Market at Henry Ford Allegiance Health is open today from 9 AM to 2 PM.  Local, sustainable and organic produce and Michigan-made items are featured.  Located across from the main hospital building on East Michigan Avenue. 

Jackson College will host a Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration at noon Thursday, Sept. 14 on the Potter Center Patio. Visitors can sample great cuisine and listen to music from Los Vaqueros, The Cowboys. This free event is open to students and the community.  In 1968, Congress authorized President Lyndon B. Johnson to proclaim a week in September as National Hispanic Heritage Week. The observance was expanded in 1988 to a month-long celebration (Sept. 15 – Oct. 15), honoring Hispanic heritage.  For more information, contact Jackson College’s Office of Multicultural Affairs at 517.796.8470.

Digital Resources Picnic, presented by the Jackson District Library.  CP Federal City Square, 12 PM to 2 PM.  Intended for Adults.  Bring your lunch to the CP Federal City Square and learn about many of the digital resources the library has to offer.  Outside the Lines is a weeklong celebration demonstrating the creativity and innovation happening in libraries.  Libraries are dynamic centers for engagement that help everyone in your local community be their best. Aimed at getting our community to think about Jackson District Library in a different way, Outside the Lines will demonstrate how the library is an important asset to their lives. 

The Eastern Branch of the Jackson District Library presents Jennifer Lawrence Movies Thursdays in September at 2 PM.  Today’s movie is  American Hustle (2013, R) starring Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence.  Free admission and free popcorn.  All ages welcome.  Widescreen and comfortable seats too!

Sandhill Crane Vineyards presents Thirsty Thursdays.  Live music, yummy food from the café, and great wine… every Thursday night!  Tonight’s musician is Linen Ray.  Cost: $5 cover charge.  Wine is also available for purchase by the glass or bottle.  Food: A limited café menu is available along with several entrée and dessert specials for the evening.  Time: 6:00 to 9:00 pm, live music from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Festival of the Forks begins today in Albion, continuing through Saturday.  A variety of activities and events include a Carnival, at Reiger Park in Albion: Thursday, 4 – 9 PM,  Friday, 4 – 9 PM,  Saturday, 11 – 9 PM.  A Free Concert at the Bohm Theatre presents Chicago’s “Howl at the Moon”  dueling piano show, providing a family-friendly event for all ages. Bring your music requests  and see if your selection is played by pianists Tommy and Rachel.  Admission is free, first-come, first-served.  Concessions will be available to purchase. East Coast Swing Class at Jackson School of the Arts.  So you think you can dance? You can.  Join us for these 3 week lessons in East Coast Swing.  Thursdays 8:30-9:30 PM. Modern Square Dancing Classes tonight at Northwest Elementary School, 3757 Lansing Avenue.  Dances for Beginners at 6:30 PM to 8 PM; Dances for Intermediate/Plus from 8 PM to 9 PM.  No partner necessary; singles, couples and families welcome.  Beginners:  $27 for first 10 weeks or $3 per session.  Intermediates/Plus:  $28 for first 10 weeks or $2 per session.  For more information, call 517-784-0863.
