Music, comedy, magic, stage shows and more await audiences in the 2016-17 Potter Center entertainment series announced today by Jackson College.  Tickets are on sale now at the Potter Center Box Office.

This season’s performances include:

  • Bill Engvall, Oct. 1, 2016, two shows, 5 & 8 p.m. – Bill Engvall is a top comedian and Grammy nominated, multi-platinum selling comedy recording artist. He starred in and executive produced his own self-titled sitcom on TBS, which ran for three seasons. He was part of the sketch comedy show, “Blue Collar TV,” which ran on the WB network, and the successful Blue Collar Comedy concert films, some of the most watched movies and specials in Comedy Central history. Bill’s first album, “Here’s Your Sign,” is certified platinum and held the No. 1 position on the Billboard Comedy Chart for 15 straight weeks. His second album, “Dorkfish,” also debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Comedy Chart, as did his subsequent comedy albums. Bill has written several books, including his 2007 autobiography “Bill Engvall –Just A Guy.” Tickets cost $60, $55 and $50.
  • The Magic of Bill Blagg Live, Oct. 21, 2016, 7:30 p.m. – Bill Blagg has had a magical life. He was just 5 years old when he received his first beginner’s magic set and his journey began. Today he is one of the nation’s top touring illusionists.  Bill prides himself on being able to consistently create and stage new illusions to thrill his audiences year after year. His live performances leave people in disbelief and he performs never-before-seen illusions such as the world’s only rideable hoverboard. He is also known for instantly teleporting across theaters, squishing his body from 6 foot 6 inches tall, passing through the blades of an industrial fan, and much more! Audience volunteers will levitate in mid-air, others will vanish in the blink of an eye and so much more! Witness over 90 minutes of live interactive, action-packed magic and illusion performed by the country’s most prominent magical star, Bill Blagg!   • Be One Tour with Natalie Grant and Danny Gokey, Oct. 29, 7 p.m. — Four-time GRAMMY nominee and five-time Dove Award-winning Female Vocalist of the Year Natalie Grant is joining forces with two-time Dove nominee and K-LOVE’s newly named 2016 Male Artist of the Year Danny Gokey for the “Be One” Tour.  Natalie Grant is known for her powerful and soaring vocals, heart-gripping lyrics and passionate performances. She has remained one of the top-selling Christian and Gospel artists since her 2005 breakout RIAA Gold Certified album, “Awaken.” She has gone on to have  more than 3 million in career sales. She has had multiple No. 1’s on the Billboard singles and albums charts, including her most recent record, “Be One.” Danny Gokey was a finalist on Season 8 of “American Idol” and has gone on to record some great songs for radio including his latest “Tell Your Heart to Beat Again.” His album “Hope in Front of Me” features a collection of songs brought vividly to life by his warm, soulful voice.  Tickets cost $40, $35 and $32.
  • “Fame the Musical,” Nov. 4, 2016, 7 p.m.   In spring 1980, more than 4,000 young hopefuls auditioned for the New York City High School of the Performing Arts. Only 97 were admitted – the cream of the crop!  “Fame the Musical is a full-throttle journey traversing the struggles, fears and triumphs of young artists navigating the worlds of dance, music and theatre. Conceived from the unforgettable Academy Award-winning film and Emmy Award-winning television series, the unmistaken title has been brilliantly transformed into riveting musical theatre. This must-see entertainment continues to reach and inspire generations of performers and audience members alike. Tickets cost $42, $37 and $28.
  • Art Garfunkel: In Close Up, Nov. 19, 7 p.m.  — Blessed with what the New York Times describes as a “beautiful countertenor,” singer Art Garfunkel has made an indelible mark on the music world as a solo artist and half of the unrivaled Simon & Garfunkel. Garfunkel was originally revered for his Grammy®-winning, chart-topping songs and albums with partner and fellow New York City native Paul Simon. Simon and Garfunkel’s Greatest Hits, including “Mrs. Robinson,” “Scarborough Fair,” “The Sound Of Silence,” “The Boxer,” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” among others, is one of the biggest selling albums ever. Art Garfunkel is still doing what he does best: singing for an audience. “Taking on the fear and vulnerability of a live show keeps you vital,” says Garfunkel, trying to get away with a lucky job.   • Sandi Patty: Christmas Blessings, Dec. 9, 2016, 7 p.m.  — As one of the most highly acclaimed performers of our time with five Grammy® Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, three platinum records, five gold records, and 11 million units sold, Sandi Patty is simply known as The Voice. Sandi is the most awarded female vocalist in contemporary Christian music history, with 40 Dove Awards. She was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2004 and as an Indiana Living Legend in 2007. She has released over 30 albums, including her latest album “Everlasting.” While her 30-year career is heavily rooted in the gospel music industry, she has had the opportunity in more recent years to extend her career outside the genre. Sandi has performed with symphonies across the country, including the New York Pops, Boston Pops, Cincinnati Pops, Dallas Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Houston Symphony, and Oklahoma City Philharmonic. Tickets cost $45, $40 and $32.
  • Russian National Ballet Theatre: The Sleeping Beauty, Jan. 21, 2017, 8 p.m. — The Russian National Ballet Theatre brings the classic tale Sleeping Beauty to life through classic ballet. With a timeless score by Tchaikovsky and beautiful choreography by Marius Petipa, the ballet captures the delight, the fantasy and the drama of the cherished story.  Princess Aurora must entrust her future to a rescuing prince when she’s sent into a slumber by the vengeful Carabosse. Set to Tchaikovsky, Sleeping Beauty comes alive amidst a lavish set complete with magical effects and courtly splendor, while upholding the grand national tradition of Russian ballet. Tickets cost $28, $22 and $15 ($10 tickets available for students and children 12 years and under, must be purchased with a minimum of one adult/full price ticket).
  • Wynonna and The Big Noise, Jan. 28, 2017, 7 p.m.Five-time Grammy winner and New York Times best-selling author, Wynonna’s career has always revolved around telling stories. Whether performing alongside her mother as one-half of the legendary duo The Judds or pushing the boundaries on her own mega-successful solo path, Wynonna’s ability to reach the heart of the human spirit through her bold and unflinching honesty is the entertainer’s true gift.   • Late Nite Catechism 2: Sister Strikes Again, Feb. 24, 2017, 7:30 p.m.It’s up to Sister to save the souls of those assembled – aka the audience!  Beginning with an overview of heaven and hell as a Catholic version of Chutes and Ladders and moving onto her proclamation of new sins for the new millennium, Sister is never hesitant to tell us where we’ve gone wrong.  (Needless to say, excessive tattooing and piercing are right up there with pornographic websites and dining at Hooters.)  And never doubt that she can provide a list of every celebrity currently sharing digs with the devil. No one is excused from Sister’s firm belief that “sometimes we feel guilty because we are guilty.” Tickets cost $30 reserved, $25 students.
  • Al Jarreau, Feb. 25, 2017, 7 p.m.  Al Jarreau’s unique vocal style is one of the world’s most precious treasures.Since the mid-1970s, this versatile singer has applied his distinctive and instantly recognizable vocal style – a unique combination of lyrical swing and captivating vocalese – to a broad spectrum of musical genres. With this eclectic approach, he has earned much success along the way – enough to position him to claim seven Grammy® Awards in three distinct genres of jazz, pop and R&B.  Time Magazine called him “the greatest jazz singer alive.”  In 1996, the Best of Al Jarreau compilation was released, featuring his career hits. Still one of the hardest working men in show business, he continues to record and tour. Tickets cost $45, $40 and $35.
  • Cirque Ziva, March 18, 2017, 7 p.m.Cirque Ziva features a large cast and spectacular set designs, illustrating the best of producer Danny Chang’s brand of artistic merit, high production value and solid commitment to cultural exchange. Drawing on the traditions of Chinese acrobatics, Cirque Ziva is a fast-paced, technically innovative and beautifully presented stage show presented by the Golden Dragon Acrobats. An instant success in Asbury Park, Cirque Ziva has continued to earn critical acclaim and packed houses. A display of visually and technically innovative performances will showcase traditional, centuries-old Chinese acrobatics, dance and costumes.  This fast-paced show combines ancient and contemporary music along with modern theatrical techniques.Tickets cost $28, $22 and $15 ($10 tickets available for students and children 12 years and under, must be purchased with minimum of one adult/full price ticket).
  • Survivor, April 22, 2017, 7 p.m. Legendary rock band Survivor is best known for their 1982 hit, “Eye of the Tiger,” the theme song for the motion picture Rocky III. That single hit #1 and stayed there for seven weeks, winning a Grammy for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal, a People’s Choice Award, and an Academy Award nomination. The song also came in at #18 on the “Top 100 Singles” chart in Billboard‘s 100th Anniversary issue and it’s well over the 300,000 mark on iTunes.  Their other chart-topping singles include “Burning Heart,” “The Search Is Over,” “High On You,” “Is This Love” and “I Can’t Hold Back.” Tickets cost $45, $40 and $32.
