Edward and Winthrop Local Street Reconstruction

In the past week, the new gravel base and the bottom and middle layers of asphalt were placed and compacted. Unfortunately, the concrete subcontractor did not finish the sidewalk and driveways on Winthrop as scheduled. The remaining concrete work is now scheduled for July 22 and  23. Next week, pavement removals and water main installation will commence on Edward Avenue.

Glick Highway between Blackstone and Jackson

The restoration of all disturbed pavements and sidewalks with new concrete has been completed. At this time, all lanes are open to traffic on Jackson Street and all but a single lane are open to traffic on Glick Highway. Unfortunately, the work to pull new conductors into place and connect them to the electrical distribution system has not been completed as scheduled due to field conditions that differ from what was anticipated. Work on this task by Consumers Energy’s crews and contractors continues and will likely take two more weeks to complete.

Jackson Street between Washington and Glick

Work by Consumers Energy’s contractor to replace underground ducts that cross Jackson Street at two separate locations has been completed. The disturbed pavement on Jackson Street has been restored and all lanes opened to traffic. The City of Jackson’s project to upgrade sidewalk ramps and repave the street is scheduled to commence in early August. This project will also include the repaving of Mechanic Street and Francis Street between Washington and Glick.

Mechanic Street between Morrell Street and Washington Avenue

The new water main that was installed on this City of Jackson project within the Morrell Street intersection has been disinfected and is currently in the process of being sampled and tested to ensure that it is safe to put into service. Early next week, the new water main will be connected to the City-wide distribution system. Morrell Street will then be opened to traffic. During the testing period, the contractor has stayed productive by installing new water main pipe north of Morrell Street. Water main installation will not progress north of Mason Street until after Morrell Street has been opened to traffic.

Michigan Avenue between Blackstone Street and Francis Street

Work on the Dig Downtown Jackson project did recommence this week. A sign crew started installing new permanent signs throughout the work zone. The sign work is scheduled for completion early next week. An electrician’s crew that was scheduled to start work to install new electrical outlets at the base of trees did not start as they continue to await the delivery of materials. Once those materials are received, they will begin their work immediately. The electrical outlet installation work is scheduled to take about two months to complete. Upon the completion of the work to install electrical outlets, the landscaping crew will arrive to plant shrubs, decorative grasses and perennials in the landscaping beds in the block between Jackson Street and Mechanic Street.

West Avenue Construction between Ganson Street and North Street

All work other than clean up items is complete for this section of West Avenue. West Avenue between Ganson Street and North Street is now open to traffic.

West Avenue Construction between Michigan Avenue and Wildwood Avenue

In the past week, the contractor for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) began work on this section of West Avenue. Work within this section includes water main and sewer replacement as well as full depth pavement reconstruction with new concrete curbs, driveways and sidewalks. The contractor is currently installing new water main pipe. This task is scheduled to be completed late next week. All work on this phase is scheduled for completion in mid-September.

Wisner Street Repaving between Argyle Street and Boardman Road

All work on this project is completed and all lanes of Wisner Street are now open to traffic.
