The City of Jackson has announced this week’s construction schedule and it includes:

  • New curb and gutter to be installed on Edward
  • New catch basins to be installed on Francis Street
  • Electric crews continuing work on Michigan Avenue
  • New gravel base set for West Avenue, along with curbs

Edward and Winthrop Local Street Reconstruction

In the past week, the contractor began the process of grading the roadway and placing and compacting gravel on Edward.  The concrete crew is scheduled to arrive either late this week or early next week to place concrete for new curb and gutter, sidewalks and driveways on Edward.  The curb will take one day to complete.  While the concrete subcontractor then works on sidewalks and drives, the prime contractor will finish the task of placing, compacting and trimming the gravel base.  The prime contractor will also place and grade topsoil in the disturbed grass areas.  By the end of next week, Edward will be ready for the placement of the base and middle layers of new asphalt.

Francis Street between Washington and Glick

In the past week, the contractor completed the task of removing those sections of curb and sidewalk that are scheduled for replacement.  Next week, new catch basins will be installed at various locations.  Also next week, a concrete crew will arrive on site to begin concrete placement in those sections of new curb, sidewalks and ramps that have been removed.

Mechanic Street between Morrell Street and Washington Avenue

In the past week, the contractor completed the installation of the last of the new water main pipe between Wesley and Washington.  This section is currently being tested to ensure there are no leaks.  Next, it will be disinfected and tested to ensure that it is safe to put into service.
In the past week, the contractor also connected the section of new water main between Morrell and Wilkins to the city-wide distribution system at the intersections of Morrell and Biddle.  Currently, the contractor is working to connect buildings within this section to the new water main.  This work will continue through next week.  This work requires water shut-off periods that typically last about six hours.  Door hanger notices will be placed on the front door of each impacted residence a day prior to a water service interruption.

Michigan Avenue between Blackstone Street and Francis Street

Work by the electrician’s crew to install electrical outlets throughout the work zone continues.  In the last week, the last of the conduit was installed on the south side of Michigan Avenue.  While one crew continues the task of conduit installation on the north side, a second crew has begun pulling wires into place on the south side.  The outlets at the base of the trees on the south side of the street are scheduled to be in operation by the end of August.  The outlets on the north side will be operation in mid-September.

West Avenue Construction between Michigan Avenue and Wildwood Avenue
