BROOKLYN, Mich. (May 19, 2016) — The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards got an early start to the racing season at Michigan International Speedway.
Nearly 20 entered an open test in the Irish Hills to test the new composite body cars the series is running in 2016. The test served as the first practice day for the teams on a superspeedway in this type of car. It will make its racing debut at Pocono in June.
The ARCA racing series returns to MIS on June 10 for the Corrigan Oil 200. And the drivers at MIS on Thursday were already looking forward.
“The first impression is that the car drives great and it has a ton of grip so that is the most important thing,” Tom Hessert said. “It looks awesome and it will be more in-line with the other cars when we come back.”
The teams conducted a three-hour session in the morning and another four-hour test session in the afternoon.
Chase Briscoe, the current points leader in the series, only got four laps in during the morning session, but he was impressed.
“It is definitely fast,” Briscoe said. “It has a ton of grip. I think we are going to be able to move around a lot in the race. I am looking forward to coming back to the race.”
Briscoe had the top speed in the morning session at 187.115 mph.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series roars onto Michigan International Speedway twice in 2016. The first of the track’s two NASCAR weekends is June 10-12 with the Corrigan Oil 200 ARCA Racing Series on June 10; NASCAR XFINITY Series Menards 250 presented by Valvoline on June 11; and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series FireKeepers Casino 400 on June 12.
The Sprint Cup Series will wind up its summertime stint at MIS on August 28 with the Pure Michigan 400. The Camping World Truck Series Careers for Veterans 200 presented by The Cooper Standard Foundation & Brad Keselowski’s Checkered Flag Foundation is on August 27.
Michigan International Speedway continues to keep ticket prices low for 2016. Race fans who purchase early will have the best prices and the best seats. Tickets for a NASCAR Sprint Cup race start at $48, with children 12 and under free in certain sections, ensuring families a chance to see NASCAR at affordable prices.
You can camp all week long for one price, starting at $165.
The track will also continue its junior pricing program where kids 13-16 are half price in reserve seats.
